How I Stopped Masturbating
How Masturbation Addiction Hurts Others?

While masturbation appears a solitary, sexual act, the addiction tends to affect more than the individual participant.  Masturbation practices are different for every person, but there are certain consistencies for everyone, male or female.  Firstly, masturbation is a sexual act.  It can cause high arousal, result in very real orgasms and can result in unusual sexual behaviors.

And, masturbation is not exclusively for the young; far from it.  Surveys indicate that 70 – 90 percent of adults continue to masturbate well, into their senior years.  One report suggested that 20 percent of seniors still masturbate once a week or more.  The issue is where is the line between normal masturbation practices and masturbation addiction.

It is also true that people in relationships continue to masturbate.  In 2003, a study revealed that 85 percent of men and 45 percent of women who were living with sexual partners continued to masturbate during the relationship.

The toll on relationships can be devastating.  42 percent of women reports that their partner’s masturbation habit makes them feel less secure and less desirable.

How intense is the masturbation epidemic becoming?  Very.  53 percent of young men and 23 percent of young women have masturbated by the time they are 11 – 13.  Most young children say the easy accessibility to online pornography makes them want to experiment with sex before they feel they are prepared.

The relationship between masturbation addiction and online porn addiction is convincing.  The pursuit of fantasy needs re-supply, like other forms of addiction.  Masturbation addiction soon becomes online porn addiction or vice versa.  These dependencies can threaten your lifestyle, your career and your family or partners.

According to Pfizer, who produces Viagra, a recent study showed that 57 percent of men and 51 percent of women enjoyed sex from one to six times per week.  That is in the real world, with real people, with real sexual partners.  Meaningful sexual relations embody the spirit, the physical and the emotional side of the relationship.

Think about children.  Teenagers watch plenty of television.  83 percent of television content, including soap operas, contains sexually stimulating content.  The University of Alberta reported that 33 percent of 13-year old students admitted to viewing porn fairly regularly.

So, where does it end?  How do we stop hurting our sexual partners?  How do we protect our children and the children of others?  Masturbation and porn addiction need to be dealt with on a one-on-one basis.  These personal addictions have similarities but require unique therapy for each patient.
