One of the biological consequences of masturbation is that 400 percent more prolactin, the hormone that relaxes one after orgasm, is released during intercourse with a partner.  When masturbating, the level of prolactin diminishes and reduces the feeling of satisfaction while increasing the level of frustration.  This drives the addict to continually attempt to reproduce the intended result.  The cycling process can be humiliating.

This biological explanation does not include an assessment of the emotional release that partnered sex emits.  This emotional connection is important to the enjoyment of sexual activity and is just as significant for males as it is for females.
