      How I Stopped Masturbating

Negative Effects of Masturbation

Negative effects of masturbatingMany people have wondered and argued about whether or not masturbation can be detrimental and at what point it becomes excessive. This is a question that has been pondered and debated for a very long time and will, no doubt, continue to be pondered and debated.

Although we obtain various information with regard to masturbation during the course of our lives, from family members, friends or other adults, it is safe to say that much of the information is incorrect or, at best, incomplete. It has been scientifically proven that basic masturbation (as opposed to deviant and/or excessive masturbation) is not harmful to one’s body.

It really depends on the individual case of masturbation. While masturbation is not harmful when done in moderation, performing this act too often or for prolonged periods using harmful techniques, can cause some issues. Because of this, maybe it would be wise to provide a rough definition of masturbation as opposed to over masturbation. There is a difference between these two levels of masturbation. Most notable with over masturbation is the presence of pain or other problems involving the genitals. If you are masturbating too much you might develop sores.

Defined loosely, over masturbation takes place when insufficient time is allowed between acts of masturbation for the genital area to repair any wear and tear that may have occurred. Masturbation consists of friction, pressure, and a recuperative period afterward. When you over masturbate, the rejuvenation period is shortened, and does not take the proper course.

There are a lot of urban myths about masturbation. These are usually learned in the schoolyard from kids who don’t really know what they are talking about. Of course, there are the old fashioned myths regarding masturbation.  For example, you will go blind, grow hair on your palms, become impotent or insane, reduce your libido, and so forth.

Science has proven all of these common myths to be false; if these issues do occur in a person who masturbates, they are due to another condition and not as a result of masturbation. As a matter of fact, famous research scientists like those working for Masters and Johnson have been working diligently, attempting to answer precisely this question on the consequences of masturbation. Findings thus far indicate that a moderate amount of masturbation is not negative, but is, in fact beneficial to the body.

Regardless of the evidence compiled by Masters and Johnson, one aspect is not covered in their literature; this aspect should be seriously considered when masturbation is discussed or when one is teaching or advising about the issue. Long term, however, use of poor or wrong techniques can cause actual issues later on in life. Let’s take a moment to think about this example and how it would affect a person in later life.

In most cases we are in school when we begin to masturbate; it is very common for individuals to start exploring masturbation during the teenage years. Because masturbation is started at such a young age, people tend to keep their practice a secret and rarely discuss their questions and fears with others. Generally, the technique we use is the one that we developed when we are teenagers and continued to use.

For teenagers, masturbation generally has on purpose — pleasure. That’s why teenagers usually masturbate as quickly as possible, in order to experience orgasm as soon as possible, both for the pleasant feeling and frequently also to avoid being caught in the act.

The downside of continuing to masturbate as one did as a teenager is that it trains the body to climax quickly. This is a primary cause of premature ejaculation and other sexual problems that men experience.

In summary, masturbation is not harmful in the short term, as long as it is done in moderation and enough time is provided between sessions to allow the body to heal. Also, healthy techniques should be used so that a healthy libido can be maintained, as well as endurance capacity in later life.
