Anonymous Online Help for Pornography, Masturbation, and Sexual Addictions.
Stop Masturbating – Or at Least Get it Under Control

Trying to stop masturbating? Masturbation is, in most cases, a normal human behavior. However, with the easy, free access to nearly unlimited amounts of pornography on the Internet, millions of people are finding they are stoking an addiction to accessing and viewing this online stimulant, and spending more and more time online masturbating.

Addiction to Online Pornography

As the masturbation habit continues and deepens, these folks find they are cutting time away from their lives, family, jobs, and future by taking 1, 2, 3 or even more hours each day to view online pornography.

When a user gets to this level of pornography consumption, damaging erosion of living life begins to take place. An hour one day, 3 hours another day, 2 hours the next, these add up to weeks, months, and years of a person’s life spent sitting in front of a bunch of pixels on a screen, wasting time alone when that person could be out forming relationships and/or meeting people with whom they could be either doing other things or could be engaging in real sexual activity with.

Key Causes

There are many causes of online pornography masturbation addiction, but the key one is self-esteem. You may feel like your self-esteem is just fine, but if you’re spending hours a day online, there are some key self-esteem and life issues that you will need to address before you can stop masturbating, or at least lower the number of days and amount of time spent online to a more manageable level.

The root causes of why you feel “”better”” masturbating online, of why you wind up there as a release – as opposed to actually living your life – lie in things like your relationships, job/career, history, experiences, outlook, fears, insecurities, failures, and desires.

Solutions

To change your outlook and minimize the amount of time you spend online masturbating, you need to start slow and build your confidence over time. Cold turkey doesn’t work for most people for this type of addiction, and the reason is that the root cause of your addiction goes deeper than just “”masturbating”” or stopping masturbation. Since it’s an esteem issue, it’s your self-esteem and outlook on life that need to change a little bit at a time in order to slowly divert your attention to other things without feeling the types of discomfort and stress that will, in turn, lead you back to your addiction as a release.

To change your life and thus minimize or remove the appeal of online masturbation, you will need to:

  • Define what you want to change
  • Analyze your current situation
  • Define the challenges that stand in your way
  • Jot down things you’d rather be doing besides masturbating online
  • Build your confidence up
  • Manage your setbacks
  • How to Stop Masturbating Online

Most people that are masturbating online are escaping things in their lives that they are coping with or running from. But there are a few things that you can start doing right now to ease and manage your addiction and get on with a new life:

  • Exercise more often. Burning calories exercising has so many benefits that I cannot even list them here. But the positive effects of even minor increases in exercise will give you more power to control your masturbation habit.
  • Get out and see more people. Instead of getting online, go hang out someplace public, or see a friend, neighbor, spend more time with members of your family, go eat some food, play a sport, read a book at store or WHATEVER – make a effort to go do something. Even if you fail half the time, at least you’re starting to replace the behavior you want to change with positive experiences that are different from camping in front of a computer downloading porn by yourself.
  • Sign up for group activities – again, anything you’re interested in. Even if it’s an activity you do by yourself that’s in public, such as seeing a movie, going to an art museum or library, hunting, fishing, or anything you’re interested in, get out and do something you like to do when you feel the urge to get online.
  • Don’t try to stop masturbating cold turkey, but instead try to minimize your escapes and replace as many sessions as you can by doing something else.
  • Build your confidence up and manage your setbacks
